NIETZSCHE
Beginning of Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy (circa 1893)
"The integration of the unconscious with the conscious." Dr. Josef Breuer is introduced to Friedrich Nietzsche by Lou Salome, a collector of the most brilliant minds of Europe, who wants to help save Nietzsche from migraine headaches and suicidal tendencies utilizing Dr. Breuer's "Talking Cure." Breuer made the crucial observations upon which early psychoanalytic theory was based. Sigmund Freud is a personal friend and confidant of Dr. Breuer and mentor to Ms. Salome enabling her to become a celebrated psychoanalyst. Freud has read Nietzsche's books on philosophy and admires his penetrating knowledge of mankind calling him perhaps the greatest psychologist whose ever lived. Nietzsche and Breuer explore the depths of their own romantic obsessions and discover the redemptive power of friendship. They assist each other in transcending their respective mental challenges and with Freud evolve the concept of psychotherapy. Nietzsche's concept of the "Ubermensch" is a state of realization and integration of optimal characteristics of the self to basically become super-human relative to the average person similar to the relationship of a normal human to an ape. Gurdjieff had a similar concept of transcending suffering in ones quest of the perfected self documented by P.D. Ouspensky in his book, "In Search of the Miraculous."
